The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is part of the United Nations System as the leading inter-governmental organization promoting since 1951 humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all, with 174 member states and a presence in over 100 countries. Germany joined the IOM in 1954.
In the Federal Republic of Germany, the International Organization for Migration works with ministries and government agencies as well as civil society organizations, welfare and diaspora associations.Areas of work include protection, labour mobility and social inclusion, return and reintegration, resettlement and humanitarian admission, family reunification, crisis response, resource mobilization and psychosocial support.
More than 180 employees of 45 different nationalities work for IOM in Berlin, Nuremberg and Rhineland-Palatinate.
