Descripción del trabajo

The European Southern Observatory’s Department of Communication, within the Office of the Director General at its Headquarters in Garching, needs the support of a working student in the following area: 3D Services.

ESO’s Creative Team is using 3D animations for various productions, such as images, visuals for press releases or technical animations for explainer videos. Additionally, we are producing a realtime application, that enables the audience to visit ESO’s Extremely Large Telescope within a virtual environment. Due to high workload, we require support in this area – assisting our visual artists in time-consuming routine tasks within the 3D production pipeline.

For this role we are looking for a highly motivated student in the areas of animation, game design or a comparable degree programme with general 3D experience, who will be working hand in hand with the seasoned professionals of ESO’s Creative Team and under their guidance.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lighting, texturing and shading 3D models, preparing them both for rendering and for realtime environments.
  • Simplifying, cleaning and structuring 3D models.
  • Creating simple models and setting up scenes.
  • Importing/Exporting 3D data between applications.
  • Simple animations.

Key Competencies and requirements for the delivery of the services:

  • Experience in Cinema4D.
  • Experience working within realtime environments, ideally Unreal Engine.
  • General experience working within a 3D production pipeline end-to-end. We kindly ask for a demo reel or video portfolio to evaluate these skills.
  • A workplace suitable for remote work.

Language Skills:
The position requires an excellent command of English. Spanish or German language skills are a plus.

Location:
Remote working. Working hours are flexible.

The working student will be available via email with a response time of two business days, except during annual leave periods.

Remuneration and Contract:
The applicant must be enrolled as a student in one of ESO’s member states (Austria, Belgium, Czechia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, The Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK) and be at least 18 years of age. The work can be performed remotely alongside your studies. The scope is eight hours per week at an hourly rate of 17EUR, which can be done flexibly. The estimated hours per year are 350.
