FKfuthark

FKfuthark is a font design project that started in 2012 and is updated from time to time. It revolves around the Norse rune script Fuþark. There’re numerous modern interpretations of the Fuþark that were developed to imitate or represent the traditional script, but most of them look ungainly or right-out whimsical. In one part this is due to the traditional canon of forms being used, which dictates certain glyph designs and often results in an irregular text flow — and in part it’s due to some designers wanting their script to look as“foreign” and irregular as possible, which results in the same problem.

However, FKfuthark was developed with another approach in mind. The design is deliberately kept as clean as possible with all runes being visually harmonized to allow for a smooth and steady text flow most Fuþark fonts aren’t able to match.

All runes show a tall and sleek design with slight adjustments to prevent more complex runes from looking patchy. At the moment FKfuthark exists in two cuts: regular and bold. It includes over 100 runes of the younger and older Fuþark together with alternative shapes for many runes and numeric representations of the three ættir.
